1. About this Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Independent Business Valuations, ABN 95 280 049 220 (“IBV”, “we”, “us” or “our”), collects, holds, uses and discloses personal information.
This policy applies to independentbusinessvaluations.com.au, any related website operated by IBV that links to this policy, and personal information collected through our valuation and related business activities.
Where the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles apply to IBV, we handle personal information in accordance with those requirements. Where they do not legally apply, we nevertheless seek to follow them as a matter of good privacy practice.
2. Personal information we collect
The personal information we collect depends on how you interact with us. It may include:
- Your name, title, organisation and contact details;
- Information contained in enquiries, emails, telephone calls, meetings and correspondence;
- Engagement, billing and payment information;
- Information required to confirm your identity or authority to act;
- Information about businesses, ownership interests, transactions or disputes relevant to a valuation;
- Financial, operational and corporate records that may contain personal information about directors, owners, employees, customers, suppliers or other individuals;
- Documents and information provided by your accountants, lawyers or other advisers;
- Feedback, complaints and marketing preferences; and
- Technical information such as your IP address, browser, device, referring website, pages visited and interactions with our website.
We do not ordinarily seek sensitive information unless it is reasonably necessary for an engagement and may lawfully be collected.
Please do not send tax file numbers, passwords, bank login credentials, identity documents or other highly sensitive information through an ordinary website form or unsecured email unless we specifically request it and provide an appropriate transmission method.
3. How we collect personal information
We may collect personal information:
- Directly from you through our website, enquiry forms, email, telephone calls, meetings, questionnaires and documents;
- From a client or another person authorised to provide it;
- From accountants, lawyers, financial advisers, brokers and other professional advisers;
- From company officers, employees and representatives;
- From publicly available sources, including government registers, company websites and professional directories; and
- Automatically through cookies, server logs, analytics, advertising-measurement and website-security technologies.
You may browse the public areas of our website without directly identifying yourself. We will generally require your name and contact details to answer an enquiry or consider an engagement.
4. Why we collect and use personal information
We may collect, hold and use personal information to:
- Respond to enquiries;
- Assess whether we can accept an engagement;
- Identify and manage conflicts of interest;
- Scope, perform and administer valuation services;
- Analyse information relevant to an engagement;
- Communicate with clients, advisers and authorised parties;
- Prepare valuation reports and other agreed deliverables;
- Manage invoicing, payments, insurance and business records;
- Comply with legal, regulatory, court and professional obligations;
- Prevent fraud, spam, misuse and security threats;
- Investigate and resolve complaints or disputes;
- Improve our website, services and communications;

- Send relevant business communications where you have consented or where otherwise permitted by law.
IBV does not sell personal information or trade mailing lists.
5. Google Analytics, Google Ads and reCAPTCHA
Our website uses services provided by Google, including:
Google Analytics 4
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how visitors find and use our website and to improve its content, performance and usability.
Google Analytics may process information including:
- Cookies and similar online identifiers;
- IP address and network information;
- Browser, operating-system and device information;
- Approximate geographic location;
- Referring websites or advertising sources;
- Pages visited and links selected;
- Time spent on pages; and
- Interactions and events occurring on the website.
We do not intentionally send names, email addresses, telephone numbers, form contents, uploaded documents or other directly identifying information to Google Analytics.
Google Ads conversion tracking
We use Google Ads conversion tracking to measure whether advertising leads to actions such as:
- Visiting particular pages;
- Submitting an enquiry;
- Selecting a telephone or email link; or
- Completing another defined website action.
Google Ads may use cookies, advertising identifiers and information about an advertising click or website interaction to measure these events.
Conversion tracking helps us assess advertising performance. It does not mean that IBV receives information identifying every individual who viewed or selected an advertisement.
Google's EU User Consent Policy requires consent before advertising cookies and identifiers are used for visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Quebec. Our website does not display a cookie-consent banner, so visitors in those regions are not measured by Google Ads; visitors elsewhere may be measured in accordance with that policy and applicable law. You can opt out of Google advertising measurement through Google Ads Settings.
Google reCAPTCHA
We use Google reCAPTCHA to protect website forms from spam, automated submissions, fraud and abuse.
reCAPTCHA may analyse information about your device, browser, network and interaction with the website to determine whether an action is likely to have been performed by a person or an automated system.
Use of reCAPTCHA is subject to the Google Privacy Policy and Google Terms of Service.
Those words should be linked to the relevant Google pages when this policy is published.
Google requires websites using Google Analytics to disclose that use, while its policies prohibit customers from sending personally identifiable information to Analytics.
6. Cookies and your choices
Our website may use:
- Essential cookies and technologies, required for website operation, security, spam prevention and reCAPTCHA;
- Analytics cookies, used to understand website use; and
- Advertising-measurement cookies, used to measure Google Ads performance.
Where our cookie-consent tool applies, you can:
- Accept non-essential cookies;
- Reject non-essential cookies; or
- Manage your preferences by category.
You may also restrict or delete cookies through your browser settings. Blocking essential website or security technologies may affect some website functions.
Rejecting analytics or advertising-measurement cookies should not prevent ordinary access to the public website, although it may reduce the accuracy of our website and advertising reports.
The OAIC recommends that organisations using tracking technologies understand what information is collected, disclose that use clearly and provide meaningful privacy choices.
7. Disclosure of personal information
We may disclose personal information where reasonably necessary to:
- Our employees, contractors and consultants;

8. Overseas processing and disclosure

In particular, Google and its service providers may process information in the United States and other countries in which Google or its service providers operate.

Where applicable, we take reasonable steps to assess and manage overseas informationhandling arrangements in accordance with Australian privacy requirements.

10. Security
We take reasonable administrative, technical and physical steps to protect personal information from:
- Misuse;
- Interference;
- Loss;
- Unauthorised access;
- Unauthorised modification; and
- Unauthorised disclosure.
These measures may include access controls, password protection, multi-factor authentication, secure storage, software updates, backups and confidentiality obligations.
No transmission or storage system is completely secure. Please contact us before sending particularly sensitive material if you require a secure document-transfer method.
11. Retention and deletion
We retain personal information only for as long as reasonably necessary for:
- The purpose for which it was collected;
- Performing and documenting engagements;
- Legal, taxation and recordkeeping requirements;
- Professional-indemnity and insurance requirements;

Where the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme applies and notification is required, we will notify affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner in accordance with applicable law.
15. Anonymity and pseudonyms
Where practicable, you may interact with us anonymously or by using a pseudonym.
However, we will generally need to know your identity where required to:
- Respond properly to an enquiry;
- Check conflicts;
- Verify authority;
- Comply with legal obligations; or
- Accept and perform a valuation engagement.
16. Automated decision-making
IBV does not currently arrange for computer programs to use personal information to make decisions that could reasonably be expected to significantly affect an individual’s rights or interests.
Google Analytics, Google Ads conversion tracking and reCAPTCHA are used for analytics, advertising measurement and website security. They are not used by IBV to decide whether to accept a client or determine the outcome of a valuation.
We will update this policy if our use of automated decision-making materially changes. Additional APP privacy-policy requirements concerning certain significant automated decisions commence on 10 December 2026.
17. Third-party websites
