Before you use the number

  1. 01

    Check the interest

Enterprise value and the value of a shareholding are different answers.

  2. 02

    Check the purpose

The conclusion is prepared for the instructed decision.

  3. 03

    Check permitted reliance

The engagement identifies who may rely on the report.

Section descriptions only. No client data or sample valuation.
Report structure shown for illustration. Contents and supporting analysis follow your agreed engagement.

Your deliverable

What do I actually receive?

A clear conclusion. The work supporting it. An opportunity to understand it.

See the engagement fees
  1. 01

    The answer—and its boundaries

Your signed report identifies the business or interest valued, the valuation date, the purpose and the result. An executive summary gives the reader the conclusion and its basis without requiring them to work through every appendix first.

  2. 02

    The reasoning behind the value

The detailed report sets out the agreed scope, relevant methods, financial analysis, material assumptions and limitations. Where earnings are capitalised, normalisation adjustments and the selected capitalisation rate or multiple are explained. An asset-based or forecast-based method is considered where appropriate to the engagement.

  3. 03

    The supporting Evidence Pack

Sources, supporting financial information and the relevant analyses sit behind the conclusion. RAVDA and ANZSIC industry comparable reporting are included across the packages. Limited Scope and Full also include the Industry Top Performers Report and SWOT Analysis. Supporting evidence is assessed for relevance; a benchmark is not automatically a transaction comparable.

  4. 04

A discussion, not an unexplained attachment

Calculated Value includes consultation on the initial value. Limited Scope and Full include a draft report and discussion before finalisation. This is the opportunity to clarify the reasoning, identify factual errors and discuss assumptions and limitations—not to select a preferred outcome.

Why the professional fee

You’re paying for judgement.
Not a page count.

The value of the report is in the work that makes its conclusion supportable—not the thickness of the document.

01

What is actually being valued?

A whole business, its assets and a shareholding answer different questions. We establish the instructed interest, basis, purpose and date before analysis begins, rather than treating a turnover figure as enough to choose an engagement.

02

What does the evidence support?

Reported profit is a starting point, not necessarily sustainable earnings. Owner remuneration, one-off items and related-party arrangements need evidence and judgement. Where an earnings method is unsuitable, a different supportable method may be needed; multiplying a profit figure is not a universal solution.

03

Why this conclusion?

Method selection, risk assessment and the interpretation of market information matter as much as arithmetic. The report records the reasoning and relevant restrictions so an identified user can understand how the conclusion was reached—and what it does not establish.

Fixed Professional Fees

Which engagement do I need?

“Limited Scope” is a defined engagement category under APES 225, the valuation standard we voluntarily align with. The name describes the scope of work, not a grade of quality. Restrictions can affect suitability; a fuller engagement may produce a different result.

Which report do I need for my decision?

Start with the purpose, interest valued, valuation date and who will rely on the result. Calculated Value is for your own planning using one agreed method—not ATO, family law or shareholder matters, or third-party reliance. Those purposes normally require at least Limited Scope. Forecast-dependent work may need Full Conclusion. We confirm suitability before engagement.

How much does a business valuation report cost?

Calculated Value is $2,450 + GST. Limited Scope Conclusion of Value is $4,950 + GST. Full Conclusion of Value is quoted on instructions. $2,450 + GST is the minimum engagement fee. Your Fixed Professional Fee is confirmed in writing and payable when you sign the engagement letter.

What information will I need to provide?

Usually around three years of financial records, relevant business information and a completed online RAVDA. The purpose may also require ownership details, agreements, asset information or other evidence. We confirm a tailored information request; Full Conclusion also requires the management information needed to support the selected methods.

How long will it take?

Calculated Value and Limited Scope normally take 5–7 business days after complete information and the signed engagement letter are received. Full Conclusion timing is agreed individually. Any particular deadline needs to be confirmed in writing before work starts.

Can my accountant, buyer or lender rely on the report?

Not automatically. The report is prepared for its agreed purpose and identified users; reliance by someone else requires IBV™’s written consent. Tell us who needs to use it before engagement. A report does not guarantee lender acceptance, buyer agreement or acceptance by the ATO.

Do I receive a draft and a discussion?

Limited Scope and Full include a draft report and discussion before finalisation. Calculated Value includes consultation on the initial value. You can raise factual errors, relevant evidence and questions about assumptions; the conclusion remains independent of the outcome you might prefer.

What does “Limited Scope” mean?

It is a defined engagement category under APES 225, whose relevant principles IBV™ voluntarily aligns with. It describes restrictions on the approaches, methods or procedures—not a grade of quality. The report discloses the restriction and that a fuller engagement may have produced a different result. Disclosure does not make an unsupported conclusion sufficient.

Are all the supporting reports included?

RAVDA and ANZSIC Industry Comparable Valuations reporting are included across the three packages. Industry Top Performers and SWOT Analysis are included in Limited Scope and Full, not Calculated Value. The precise report content and relevant supporting analysis follow the written engagement scope.

Can I see a completed client report?

Completed reports are confidential and are not published or shared. The report spread on this page shows section descriptions only, with no client identity, financial figures or concluded values. A valuation call can explain what your engagement would contain before you commit.

Can I use the report later or for a different purpose?

A conclusion relates to its valuation date, agreed purpose and identified users. Material changes can mean a previous result no longer applies. Contact IBV™ before using the report for a different purpose, or relying on it more than three months after issue, to discuss whether review or updating is needed. We do not provide expert-witness or court-appointed valuations.

Key takeaways

  1. 01

    Choose by purpose and reliance

The engagement follows the decision and the intended users, not turnover or a desired page count.

  2. 02

    Pay for analysis, not pages

The value lies in appropriate methods, relevant evidence and documented professional judgement.

  3. 03

    Read the restrictions

Scope and limitations affect suitability; a fuller engagement may produce a different result.

  4. 04

    Confirm who may use it

A buyer, lender or other person is not automatically permitted to rely on your report.

  5. 05

Agree the fee before work starts

Your Fixed Professional Fee, deliverables and timing are confirmed in the engagement letter.
