How we can help you

Choose the service that fits your decision. We confirm the valuation date, ownership interest and intended users before recommending the engagement.

Helping ACT owners clarify business and share value

For ACT businesses operating across entity or state boundaries, we establish which company, trust or partnership interest is being valued. We reconcile related-party dealings and identify the contracts, staff and intellectual property that belong to the relevant operation.

That clarity helps owners and advisers plan a transfer without silently including another entity’s assets or earnings. If the proposed transaction raises cross-border tax or duty questions, we coordinate the valuation instructions with the adviser responsible for that advice.

A clear valuation conclusion starts with an agreed purpose, relevant evidence and disclosed assumptions. The report identifies the interest valued and explains the reasoning behind its conclusion.

Start your ACT valuation

Book a Free Valuation Call to tell us what you own, why you need the valuation and when you need it. We will confirm the documents required, recommend the reporting scope and provide a Fixed Professional Fee quote.

Standard delivery is generally 5–7 business days after complete information and a signed engagement are received.

We serve ACT owners through document review and scheduled discussions. Any required site visit or specialist assessment is agreed separately. Tax, legal and transaction advice remains with your professional advisers; a valuation does not guarantee acceptance by an authority or a particular sale price.

ACT business resources

For an ownership change in the ACT, these official resources provide business support, economic context and commercial-property guidance. Territory-wide indicators cannot establish your business’s value, and property matters may need a separate scope.

Navigating ACT business support

ACT Government business resources connects owners with guidance, support and operating requirements. Use it to identify questions about the licences, support arrangements or obligations relevant to the entity being valued.

Reviewing the economic backdrop

ACT Treasury economic indicators provides access to territory economic releases. Consult relevant series when documenting market assumptions, keeping broader conditions separate from your own earnings and contracts.

Understanding business activity

ACT business conditions and economic diversity explains an indicator of ACT business activity and points to ABS business-count data. Use the source definitions to understand the context, not to infer an automatic premium for an ACT address.

Commercial property in a transfer

ACT Revenue Office commercial-property duty guidance addresses commercial-property transactions rather than a general duty on all business assets. If property accompanies an ownership change, ask your adviser how it should be assessed separately.

Frequently asked questions

Does ACT registration establish licensing coverage for work in NSW?

Do not assume so. Access Canberra provides information on regulated activities and mutual recognition. Prepare an activity-and-location register for adviser review, including NSW work. Identify revenue dependent on unresolved authorisations rather than treat an ACT registered address as evidence that the business can operate everywhere.

How should ACT and NSW premises appear in a valuation lease schedule?

List the premises, tenant, jurisdiction, rent, options and obligations separately. The ACT has its own commercial and retail leasing legislation. Obtain jurisdiction-specific legal advice rather than assume identical requirements, then reflect the confirmed commercial assumptions consistently in forecasts and the valuation scope.

Why does entity structure matter more than an ACT mailing address?

The valuation concerns a defined business, asset or ownership interest, not an address. Map which company, partnership or trust conducts activities and owns assets. Include cross-border income and obligations only where they belong within the agreed scope rather than treat everything associated with the address as one business.

What if an ACT company invoices customers while another entity employs staff?

Document service arrangements, payroll, intercompany charges and responsibilities. Assess reliable access to the workforce needed to earn revenue. Recognise its economic cost rather than treat profits supported by another entity’s people as independent earnings that can continue without a corresponding staffing expense.

How is related-party rent assessed across ACT and NSW operations?

Identify each property owner, occupier and rental arrangement. Assess whether the assumed expense is appropriate for the purpose rather than automatically retain or remove it. Keep separately owned property outside scope unless instructed otherwise and disclose material assumptions about continuing access to premises.

Can income earned outside the ACT be included in an ACT business valuation?

Yes, where it belongs to the entity or operations within scope. Customer geography alone does not determine inclusion. Reconcile contracts, invoices, delivery costs and assets to the relevant entity, clearly identifying exclusions where related businesses conduct some of the cross-border activity.

What if intellectual property is owned outside the ACT operating company?

Establish ownership and the company’s rights to use it. Review licence charges, access and termination provisions. Distinguish owning an asset from using it, recognise supported continuing costs and avoid assigning the full value of externally owned intellectual property to the operating company.

How are intercompany balances treated in an ACT cross-border group valuation?

Reconcile loans, receivables and payables and define the scope before adjustments. Balances within a consolidated assessment may require elimination, while obligations outside it remain relevant. Explain treatment so the same funding relationship does not inflate assets or conceal liabilities.

Should ACT cross-border tax or duty questions be clarified before valuation?

They may determine the interest, date and basis your adviser needs assessed. Obtain clear instructions first, particularly where multiple entities or asset locations are involved. The report supplies valuation evidence; it does not establish tax liability, duty treatment or the suitability of a transaction structure.

What should an ACT operating-boundary schedule contain?

Map entities to premises, staff, contracts, intellectual property and funding across jurisdictions. Identify related-party services and activities inside or outside scope. Reconcile the schedule to financial records so readers can distinguish operating performance from allocations, shared resources and assets owned elsewhere.
