Frequently asked questions

How much does an IBV™ business valuation cost?

Calculated Value is $2,450 + GST. Limited Scope Conclusion of Value is $4,950 + GST. Full Conclusion of Value is Quoted on instructions, with an indicated range of $6,950–$14,950 + GST. The minimum engagement fee is $2,450 + GST. These are professional engagement fees, not a percentage of the business value. We confirm the scope and fixed fee in writing before you sign.

Are these fixed fees or starting prices?

They are fixed professional fees for the agreed engagement, not “from” prices or hourly estimates. Calculated Value and Limited Scope have the fees shown above; Full Conclusion is individually quoted. If you request a different entity, valuation date, ownership interest or intended use, we discuss any revised scope and fee before doing additional work. There is no open-ended instruction hidden behind a fixed fee.

Are the fees inclusive of GST, and when do I pay?

All displayed fees exclude GST. Calculated Value is $2,695 including GST and Limited Scope Conclusion of Value is $5,445 including GST. The fee is payable when you sign the engagement letter. The letter identifies the valuation task, intended users, included work and fee so you can review those terms before committing.

Which engagement should I choose — and does turnover decide?

Start with why you need the valuation and who will rely on it, not turnover. Calculated Value is for your own planning using one agreed method. Limited Scope is the most common option for transactions and adviser-led tax, ownership and family law matters. Full Conclusion allows unrestricted suitable methods where the information supports them. Use the selector above as a starting point; we confirm suitability against your actual instructions before engagement.

Why is Calculated Value not suitable for a buyer, lender, the ATO or family law?

IBV’s Calculated Value applies one agreed method and defined procedures, producing a single amount for your own planning. We do not offer it for reliance by others or for ATO, family law or shareholder matters. Those purposes require at least our Limited Scope Conclusion of Value. A lower price is not a reason to choose an engagement that cannot support the intended use.

Does “Limited Scope” mean a lesser-quality valuation?

No — the name describes the scope of work, not a grade of quality. APES 225, the valuation standard IBV voluntarily aligns with, defines Limited Scope by restrictions on the approaches, methods or procedures available to the valuer. Its output is a Conclusion of Value. IBV prepares a signed, evidence-based report explaining the methods, assumptions and limitations. The engagement must still suit the purpose and intended users; the name alone does not establish suitability.

When is a Full Conclusion of Value appropriate?

Discuss Full Conclusion where startup or growth expectations, a complex structure or significant investment decisions call for unrestricted suitable methods. Budgets, forecasts, management accounts and access to the people preparing them may support discounted cash flow and other analysis. Complexity or high turnover does not automatically make it necessary. We confirm the methods, required information, fixed fee and delivery date in the engagement letter.

What reports and assessments are included?

Calculated Value includes Online Risk and Value Driver Assessment (RAVDA); ANZSIC Industry Comparable Valuations Report. Limited Scope and Full Conclusion include Online Risk and Value Driver Assessment (RAVDA); Your Industry Top Performers Report; SWOT Analysis Report; ANZSIC Industry Comparable Valuations Report. For Calculated Value, one director completes the online RAVDA. For Limited Scope, all directors and active shareholders complete it, producing one amalgamated score. These supporting resources accompany the signed valuation report; the engagement letter confirms the analysis and report scope.

Will I discuss the result before the report is finalised?

Yes. Calculated Value includes a consultation on the initial Calculated Value. Limited Scope includes IBV’s Valuation Completion Memorandum, including the draft report and discussion of assumptions and limitations. Full Conclusion includes a draft report and discussion. This is an opportunity to clarify facts and understand the reasoning — not to negotiate the valuation figure or remove relevant limitations.

Can you provide valuations for ATO and family law purposes?

Yes. IBV offers ATO-purpose and family law valuations, with at least a Limited Scope Conclusion of Value. We also provide shareholder-dispute valuations and ATO valuation review support. Tell us the purpose, relevant date, intended users and any requirements your accountant or solicitor has identified. We do not accept expert-witness or court-appointed valuation engagements. No engagement guarantees acceptance by the ATO, a lender or a court; your advisers must confirm that the scope meets the specific requirements.

What information do I need to provide?

Start with the business or ownership interest, valuation purpose, relevant date, intended users and deadline. Calculated Value and Limited Scope generally require around three years of financial records, with current trading and ownership information where relevant. Full Conclusion also needs the management information supporting its methods. Flag missing records, significant debts, unusual transactions and material changes early; we confirm the information list before work begins.

How long does the valuation take?

Standard delivery for Calculated Value and Limited Scope is 5–7 business days after the signed engagement letter and complete required information are received — not from your first enquiry. Full Conclusion timing is confirmed individually in the engagement letter. Missing information or agreed changes may affect timing, so tell us about a deadline at the outset.

Can I request priority delivery?

Tell us your deadline and intended use before committing. Standard delivery for Calculated Value and Limited Scope is 5–7 business days after the signed engagement letter and complete information; Full Conclusion timing is confirmed individually. Where a shorter timetable is needed, we confirm in writing whether it is achievable and any fee before work begins — it is not automatic and is not included in the standard fee.

What is not included in a business valuation engagement?

A business valuation is not an audit, legal opinion, tax advice or a separate real-property valuation. Specialist evidence may be needed where property or other assets materially affect the instructed value; its source and treatment must be agreed. We do not provide estimates or appraisals, expert-witness services or court-appointed valuations. Our shareholder-dispute and ATO review services concern valuation evidence, not expert testimony or legal representation. Additional entities, dates or uses are included only if expressly agreed in the scope.

What happens after I request a free valuation call?

We discuss the decision you need to make, who will rely on the result, the information available and any deadline. We then explain the appropriate engagement, required records and fixed professional fee. The call is not itself a valuation, and choosing an option in the selector does not create an engagement. You review and sign the engagement letter before paid work begins.
